The Synod on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment is a wonderful opportunity to watch discernment in action, as over 350 bishops, consultants and young people gather to:
- listen to the input of the young people gathered over the past 2 years
- listen to each other and
- reflect carefully on how the Holy Spirit is working in young people and in the Church today, and
- how the Holy Spirit is inviting the Church today to move forward, especially through and in the voice of the young
In many ways the Synod is a unique opportunity to witness community discernment in action--a huge effort on the part of the Church, as there are about 375 participants/auditors at the Synod, from all over the world.
We are only about 1/3 of the way through the Synod. (It runs from Oct. 3-28.) If you haven’t been following it, you may find that the Synod offers insights that are helpful for anyone discerning how God might be calling them to serve, as the Synod highlights the needs of humanity across the globe. Below are my favorite sources for following the Synod. (If you are already following the Synod, please share below in the comments how you are following it, and what has impressed you!)
